MeMe Detroit Return as “Mean Rock n Rollers” in New Single

Rock, Rock n Roll, Singer-Songwriter

MeMe Detroit’s new single brings about the classic sounds and angry vibes that you would typically get in an archetypal ‘Rock n Roll’ song.

Describing it as a ”Calling” and a ”Deep Lifestyle” within the lyrics, ‘Mean Rock n Roller’ was written as an anthem to anyone who feels pressurised to adapt and conform to societal ideals.

Mean Rock N Roller is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek song that we had written as a bit of fun but at the same time says ‘fuck you’ to the limiting beliefs that are pressed on us by society as we grow up. You can basically be, do or have anything you want in life when you put your mind to it, so never settle. It’s pointless”.

CRUEL – THE ROCK OPERA NOT TO BE MISSED

Experimental, Music, News, Rock, Rock n Roll

ONE NIGHT ONLY: CRUEL – GET TICKETS NOW!

https://dice.fm/event/6evab-cruel-the-rock-opera-22nd-oct-troxy-london-tickets

The one night only show coming to The Troxy in London on the 22nd of October is not to be missed by any one who can appreciate a rock show, or the theme of two lovers with a doomed relationship. Cruel by Tibor Molnar is an original opera that challenges classical musical genre characterization. It is a mixture of a rock symphonic poem with a pop/rock/sung through musical. The music encapsulates the wide range of emotions in the play, from agony to ecstasy in a futile challenge to equilibrate morality with the unstoppable craving for love.

CRUEL is a must see for anyone with a taste for dark themes and thrilling music

The story deals with the emotional exploration of an unattainable love relationship between a married man and a libertine girl dying of cancer. What impresses most is the acuteness, the depth and the versatile perspective revealed in this musical exploration. The point of the dramatical musical poem is that love is something that chooses us as opposed to the other way round, and that gaining your heart’s desire is as much a tragedy as losing it, as relationships doom us all.

The UK premiere of CRUEL is definitely suitable for those who are sick of seeing the same thing and hearing the same old story. The show will not only deliver in terms of its musical expertise in the form of four talented vocalists, but it will also leave the audience with some food for thought on the complexities of love and relationships.

The creative team:

Created by Tibor Molnar

Directed by Cezar Ghioca

Soloists:

Raluca Stoica – Soprano

Andy Ghost – Baritone

Alexandru Arnautu – Tenor

Sara Hajdu – Alto

Chordis string quartet

Lehel Lorinczi – Organist

The ‘Bridge of Sighs’ Bluesman Robin Trower Unleashes New Song ‘Diving Bell’

blues, Rock, Rock n Roll

The blues legend himself, Robin Trower, shows no sign of slowing down. Now in his eighth decade, Robin is still trailblazing creativity with his forthcoming album ‘Coming Closer to The Day’ set to be released on 22nd March and preceded by its lead track ‘Diving Bell’.

Robin’s back pages leave no doubt of his towering contribution. Follow the thread back to ’50s Southend, where the teenage Trower lived and breathed a vinyl collection that left an indelible mark on him. Making his first mark in R&B hopefuls The Paramounts, he then forged his reputation over a five-album tenure with Procol Harum.

His solo career exploded in 1974 with ‘Bridge Of Sighs’, the gold-selling masterpiece. That wave of popularity carried Trower into a series of celebrated collaborations with Jack Bruce that began with B.L.T. (1981), and even saw him guesting on tracks for Bryan Ferry’s acclaimed Taxi (1993).

The calibre of the songwriting on ‘Coming Closer To The Day’ is matched by Trower’s performances, with the bandleader handling all instruments except the drums. His basslines are supple and rhythmic, his vocals growl and and the lead guitar work only adds to his reputation as an all-time-great soloist.

Meet Your New Favourite Folk-Punk Artist: Jay Thackery

Folk, Punk, Rock n Roll

Feeling angsty yet sensitive? Need to look else where to get you punk-folk fix after you released that Frank Turner stopped releasing decent music and became kind of a knob? Well look no further because we’ve found just the guy to fill that particular hole in your life: Jay Thackery.

His debut EP is a gold-mine of story-led folk-punk ballads rooted in personal experience. Indeed, ‘The Rehab Diaries’ isn’t just attempt to make the artist sound edgy and tortured: the album was literally written and recorded during Thackery’s second stint in rehab for various  substance abuse issues. He refers to the EP as a ‘perfect snapshot of that period in his life’, which encapsulates the almost memoir-like quality that the record has: it is introspective, reflective and cathartic.

The sound, at its core, is folky. Jay Thackery has a one-man-band vibe going on, with his use of an acoustic guitar and bass-drum adding to the rough-and-ready production value that amplifies the emotive quality of his music. Manufactured pop-punk this is not. Coupled with elements from classic rock’n’roll, bluegrass and punk- all genres that traditionally have had a large grassroots scenes—his music is nothing if not authentic.

There is also a smattering of rap in songs such as ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘The Fall’, in which Thackery shows off some of his best lines, and is reminiscent of a younger Ed Sheeran, before he became the unofficial mascot of Heart Radio. We only hope that his upcoming releases contain more spoken word segments, as we feel that this shows Jay at his most inventive.

Alternative, Indie, Metal, Punk, Rock, Rock n Roll

After celebrating Christmas with a cover of the Slade classic ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, Wartoad are breaking through into the new year with a revved up, anger fueled trip that will bring the punk out of you.

The new album ‘What Rough Beasts’ features tracks highlighting their collective anger and rage, especially with one person known as the current president of the USA, which is something that definitely takes guts.

Albino: Night At The Chemist

Alternative, Country, Folk, Rock, Rock n Roll

Albino, ‘probably London’s greatest alcoholic garage rock band’, are back with their brand new album, ‘Night at the Chemist’. The band, consisting of Ben Tucker on guitar and vocals, Merv Salole on bass, Gareth Morris on guitar, and Don Gibson on percussion, and managed by Rocker Young, have easily performed over 250 gigs since starting up the band in 2005. Once a year, they even head out on an international tour, so those not from the UK will still have the chance to see this highly animated band of vintage-rock tendencies.

Albino can only be described as whisky obsessed Americana/garage rock musicians who can rock any venue using their incredible, often humorous original songs, including ‘Belinda’, the lead single off the new album, which displays the band’s energetic, light-hearted and passionate characteristics.

The strong beat alongside the catchy melody and lyrics, and the tremendous vocals from Ben Tucker, complemented by the extraordinary guitar solos, make their music incredibly satisfying and enjoyable for a wide range of listeners, making us dust off and tune our air guitars, ready to play along.

Adam Lanceley’s guitar rich ‘Those Rose Tinted Days’

Pop, Rock n Roll

untitled1

Adam’s calling as a musician and his inspirational story has led to the creation of his fifth album, Postcards from Then…, from which the single ‘Those Rose Tinted Days’ is taken.

At the young age of 10, Adam was involved in a serious car accident that left him with severe head injuries. He was told he would probably not walk or talk again, but Adam demonstrated the utmost dedication, proving everyone wrong on his amazing journey.

Whilst Adam’s music is often famed for its use of unconventional instrumentation and old-skool recording techniques, ‘Those Rose Tinted Days’ is led by a bright, catchy lightly-overdriven guitar riff that conjures images of summer days.

If you’re looking for some light, guitar rock-pop with something a bit different, then Adam’s track is one for you.

Righteous Reprobates release storming single ‘We Go With What We Know’

Alternative, Music, Rock, Rock n Roll, soundcloud, Uncategorized

Righteous Reprobates have got a great new single and it’s storming out on the  8th of April. ‘We Go With What We Know’ is a powerful guitar driven song with some intricate riffs that take us back to 60s sunshine.

Lead singer Rob White’s vocals are as full of attitude as the Gallagher boys in their prime.  This track is a taster from their forthcoming debut album ‘My Psychosis’ and will leave you wanting the full meal.  The band have a confidence like The Stone Roses which is probably why they sound like they are already in league with legends. Definitely a band to watch.

‘We Go With What We Know’ is out on 15th April 2016

Punk Band Healthy Junkies Set To Release Dynamic New Single And Album

Punk, Rock, Rock n Roll

Healthy Junkies are an antidote to a generation that’s numbed by televised talent shows by reviving the punk ethos of a time when Johnny Rotten walked down Kings Road with safety pins in his ear.

Their attitude and musical purity have earned them respect from some of their heroes such as Knox of The Vibrators, Charlie Harper of the UK Subs or Strokes producer Gordon Raphael with whom they have collaborated in the past. Describing the upcoming album ‘Box Of Chaos’, out on 20th February 2016, in their own words as a “journey which starts with a party that quickly turns to anger and dysfunction”, it is a punk statement that celebrates the values of liberty and standing up for yourself, especially in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Paris and the often imprisoning nature of a modern capitalist society. Their single ‘Watch Out’, out on 15th December 2015, paints a picture of our time in which public surveillance and dependence on technology have taken over our lives.

Formed in 2010 by UK born guitarist and singer Phil Honey-Jones and French singer Nina Courson, Healthy Junkies have established themselves in the punk scene after playing with bands such as The Damned, The Boomtown Rats, UK Subs, Walter Lure (former Heartbreakers), The Vibrators or TV Smith of The Adverts, to name a few. Over the last four years they were regular acts at Rebellion punk festival in Blackpool and have been played on various radio stations, such as TBFM which voted one of the songs on the album, ‘Danny Trash’, to number one a few weeks ago. Songwriters Nina and Phil are taking inspiration for their lyrics from everyday life, including the struggles that arise when a crazy rock’n’roll lifestyle gets to the point of mental instability and destructive behaviour. Channelling such impulses through creativity and making music is what the band uses as therapy.

Nina and Phil home 3

Healthy Junkies’ music thrives from a mixture of often distressing life experiences and musical proficiency. Lyricist Nina has been forced to live under harsh conditions from an early age after she left home at the age of 14 and ended up living with a Muslim transvestite in Paris’ red light district Montmartre, eventually falling into the abyss of drug consumption in the realm of shady characters. Meeting Phil in 2008 has turned her life around and she started focussing her energy on creating music. As a band they have also started promoting their own regular club night called Punk’n’Roll Rendevouz at a venue in Camden which has been going for over three years now. It has been a meeting place for the UK’s underground scene ever since.

Phil started to play cello at the age of six before he moved onto guitar and discovered punk rock. His previous band Nurotica has been acknowledged by influential DJs ranging from John Peel to Rodney Bingenheimer. Personal experiences play an important part of the Healthy Junkies’ songs. The new album is especially a diary of the last two years on the road – some of the tracks were literally made up on stage. It is a document of emotional stories as well as an observation of the times we live in wrapped up in a dynamic rock’n’roll sound that touches upon influences from bands such as Nirvana, The Sex Pistols, Blondie or Elastica.

The single ‘Watch Out’ is out on 15th December 2015, the album ‘Box Of Chaos’ is out on 20th February 2016.
