87 and The Toys Release diverse, alternative EP ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’

Indie, Pop

87 and the Toys are back with ”Japanesy If You Pleasey”, which combines Japanese and American culture into their current indie pop style, pondering every day issues from goading incumbent Republican Governor of Georgia over his attitude of Covid-19, to the sadness of realising there are no more Bojack Horseman episodes to watch.

87 and the Toys subscribe to the school of absolute musical purity with no filters or overblown production techniques, instead choosing to embody a commitment to authenticity.

With Dave on stand-up bass and Guitar, Hana on min-drum kit, piano and vocals, and Patrick on Rhythm Guitar and Vocals, fans are in for a treat. As Hana hails from Japan, the rich culture infuses the EP thoroughly with Eastern elements. This is found in the tracks ”All you can eat Sushi” – a song initially written as a joke by Patrick to convince Hana to go to a sushi restaurant.

Another Track to set your psyche on a spiral is Bojack, written about the fascination of a new series (in this context ”Bojack Horseman”) after Patrick had binge-watched the show and suddenly realised their are no more episodes to watch.

Filled with different sounds and elements, 87 and the Toys have excelled in representing a multitude of genres with their new EP, and are an impressive showcase of why bands that don’t take themselves too seriously are more than capable of producing great tunes.

Tod Almond releases tantalising tease track in step towards new album

Music, Rock

On September 4th, Tod Almond releases his latest single, ‘Start Again’ in a bid to tease us of the release of his debut album ‘If Only You Could See’ which is set to drop on 2nd October. This is a hugely welcome return to his classic rock song-writing and guitar prowess.

Almond is based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and has stuck true to the maxim, “do what makes you happy!” Teaching himself guitar as a teenager, he became hugely attached to his first acoustic guitar, then moving on to electric guitar, bass and drums – developing and understanding of each instrument intuitively and learning by ear.

“My children keep asking me, ‘When will you be on Spotify?’ I said, ‘It won’t be long. They just want me to be something. I really want them to hear, see and feel my happiness”

Tod almond

The single is a true, raw, down to Earth example of a classic rock tune – filled with searing solo’s and hard-rock hooks, you will be drawn to listen again and again.

Make sure to follow Tod on social media to be the first to hear about the release of ‘Start Again’ on September 4th and album ‘If Only You Could See Me’ on October 2nd.

Toyface new album – ‘Follow the Rules of the Trainwreck’

Jazz

PRimage

Having been described by a fellow artist as ‘like Laura Marling crossed with Billie Holiday’, Bristol based duo Tamsyn and James, aka Toyface, are a mouth watering proposition for music fans. With a varied collection of 11 songs making up their debut album, the pair have blended an eclectic range of influences that has resulted in an album with strong jazz and cinematic leanings; both playful and plaintive.

The pair’s songwriting process is varied: sometimes involving Tamsyn writing lyrics alongside her own simple structures on guitar; but often times working from a cappellas, which James then lays piano chords underneath. This is clearly a combination that works well and has yielded a crop of songs which are relatable to anybody who has ever found themselves working hard to find a place in the world – a situation most, if not all of us, know well.

In Tamsyn’s own words, the album ‘charts a process of experiencing, coping with, and the eventual resolution of, existential angst that I went through in my early 20s’; by way of heartbreak, physical insecurity and complex family ties’. And it’s from this well of shared stories where Toyface’s main strength lies – their ability to write with searing honesty about the common human experience, and lay those tales out across an intense, shifting musical backdrop.

For an example check out the lead album track ‘Flight’:

The album is set to be exclusively launched in the duo’s home town of Bristol on April 24th, with the album to follow shortly after. The release marks the culmination of a journey that started with a chance meeting on the way back from the Secret Garden Party festival a number of years ago.

Trying to find a way back to Bristol at the end of the festival, Tamsyn managed to find her way onto a truck with a group of revellers heading in that direction. Not long into the journey, an incident on the road left the group stranded for 28 hours waiting for the journey to continue, during which time the group bonded.

With a new festival season on the horizon, there will be plenty more chances to see Toyface in the very near future, starting with that album launch gig on April 24th.

Rockstar Frame join the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Mafia’ with new album

Rock, Rock n Roll

PRImage

A Milan five piece whose spontaneous approach to songwriting lends their heavy rock style a frenzied energy, Rockstar Frame are a band who are going places.

With a sound which follows naturally on from the likes of Guns ‘n’ Roses and Aerosmith, only with the powerful female vocals of Faith Blurry, they are already turning heads in their home country having won the national ‘Rock the Road Contest’. Competing against 70 hand-picked bands from across the country Rockstar Frame came out on top thanks to their killer songs and great live show.

Rockstar Frame have an origin story like no other. The band was started when founder Max was in a coma after falling from cliff. His family played him rock music while he was unconscious, and he woke with the belief that the music helped to bring him back – inspiring him to write his own.

From there, the band was formed, and has been growing ever since – only set to get even bigger with the arrival of the new album and the help of a growing fanbase.

Their new album, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Mafia’ drops on May 11th, and includes the single ‘She’s Hot’:

That fanbase will, in fact, have the opportunity to pick up a free copy of the new album. The album launch gig – date to be confirmed soon – will see 20 free CDs on offer for the first 20 who come dressed as an old school ‘gangster’ to join the Rock ‘n’ Roll Mafia and get into the spirit of the evening.

The show, like the album, is set to be a blinder. ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Mafia’ is released on May 11th.

Noel & the Pandas ride the 50 shades wave with ‘Whip Me’ single

Alternative, Indie, Rock

Alternative rock band from Italy release dirty new track from debut album ‘In the Art of Doom’

With a gritty, dirty groove pushed by chugging drums, distorted power chords and a spoken vocal that suits the style perfectly, it’s the latest addition to what is growing to be a very strong back catalogue.

An indie rock band with an unusually varied style, Noel and Pandas are an Italian group who revel in adding varied ideas and influences to a strong foundation of indie rock. With new album ‘In the Art of Doom’ already getting the band plenty of plaudits, the time has now come for the latest single release, the provocatively titled ‘Whip Me’.

PRimage

Already marked out as the hottest new rock proposition from Italy, Noel and the Pandas continue to go from strength to strength. Produced by guitarist Nicola Rosti and with lyrics from band founder Noel, the debut album is a true labour of love from a songwriter whose outlook on life has changed dramatically in recent years.

His is a story of riches to rags. After a promising career as a banker was ended overnight, he has picked himself back up using nothing but his music and the experiences he has to write about. The power of music to move and transform those who make and hear it is often underestimated, but Noel is living proof that – with enough talent and determination – it’s possible to come back from the brink.

‘Whip Me’ is released on June 1st.

John Graham will ‘Roll the Dice’ with new single and album ‘Cold Sun’ this June

Rock

not suitable for those with a fear of heights, it blends off kilter performance footage with a montage of adrenaline pumping, high risk stunts. It’s a truly compelling watch married to a fantastic musical groove.

UK born but now US based, John Graham’s new album is set to reach these shores showcasing slick, contemporary indie-rock with electronic touches and a heap of swagger. With influences including the Stone roses, Kasabian, The Cure, Depeche mode and more, it’s an album full of ideas which is primed to make an impact. The album is something of a departure for Graham, whose previous work under the name Quivver has seen him gaining countless plaudits producing house and techno music.

John Graham 2

However, ‘Cold Sun’ and lead single ‘Roll the Dice’ prove that there are multiple strings to this particular bow,  by turning out tunes which are strongly based on the indie rock genre. These hook laden, energetic tracks are then laced with dynamic electronic ideas, ported over from his experience in the EDM genres, to give them extra flavour. It’s not common that indie, rock and electronic ideas are mixed so effectively, with the latter adding superb textures to the former, and it’s certainly one hell of a combination thanks to the subtlety of John Graham’s genre bending.

The ‘Cold Sun’ album has been in the making for many years, being written in snatched time between full time work as a house and techno DJ and producer. It’s release is the culmination of an ambition John Graham has had for many years – to create a collection of songs that don’t fit neatly into a specific genre, and demonstrate just how versatile his writing can be.

Single ‘Roll the Dice’ is out June 1st, to be followed on June 29th by the ‘Cold Sun’ album, both through Distinctive Records.

Italian rockers Noel and the Pandas set to release debut album ‘In The Art Of Doom’

Uncategorized

noel and pandas pink sky

Noel and the Pandas are the hottest new alternative rock sound to emerge from Italy. With a soft rock sound and sensitive lyrics, the guys add a hearty Italian twist to rock.

The band is led by front man Noel, who is the ultimate Italian Jack of all trades that has finally found his calling in the world of alternative rock music.

Noel’s journey into music has been an unusual route, to say the least. Having lent his hand to many trades, Noel’s career is a fascinating and chaotic tale; beginning his career as a lawyer, Noel went on to have a long career in the banking industry. One day Noel’s career as a banker came to a crashing end over night as he lost everything in the blink of an eye when the bank he worked for was drawn into an Italian banking scandal, which even saw his father unjustly imprisoned for a brief period. Following this tragedy Noel was left recovering metal scraps from the streets and was even worked as a fisherman in West Africa for a short while, as he struggled to make ends meet.

With nothing left to his name, Noel turned to music to overcome his troubles. After mastering the guitar Noel soon realised his real passion lied in making music and began to express his troubles through his lyrics. Whilst learning how to harness his new found talent Noel began the quest for band mates to help complete his new musical venture.

Nicola Rosti, the bands lead guitarist, was the first recruit. Having been Noel’s guitar teacher for some time, the pair had a natural musical chemistry that morphed into band mate material with ease. The talented Rosti has a long and illustrious career in the music industry; having been involved with numerous bands Rosti brings technical brilliance to the ensemble and is responsible for the production of the album. Dominic Sambucco, on rhythm guitar, was the next to join. A Canadian citizen living in Italy, Sambucco’s strumming talent completed the guitar sounds of the band. Well versed in the art of alternative rock, Filippo Parmeggiani joined the band to play drums. Finally, the band was completed by the arrival of Matt Straveden. With a history as a classic pianist, Straveden is the bands keys player.

The band has an alternative rock sound, with a soft undertone that subtly embraces the best of rock. ‘In The Art Of Doom’ is the debut album from the band and showcases the rockin’ talents of the five guys. A number of tracks on the album explore the heart ache Noel has suffered over recent years and draws the listener into his complex world through his heartfelt lyrics.

Adam Protz Releases Intangible EP – ‘Movements’

Uncategorized

IMG_0409

Adam Protz has had several years to perfect his craft of composing. Using delicate piano melodies and intricate instrumentals, Adam Protz has created his beautiful EP ‘Movements’, consisting of four alluring and exquisite tracks. In the past, Adam has written music for films, animated shorts, a dance show, an educational DVD and even a brewery documentary.

Watch his latest video for ‘Movements’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS41YT2sxZ8

Protz has been writing music since the tender age of fifteen and began his journey into music writing heavy rock songs with soft orchestral bridge sections as a contrast, this developed into a desire to write for Hollywood movies. However, after listening to minimalistic meditative piano music, written by the likes of Ludovico Einaudi, Adam soon discovered that he was much more suited to creating emotive music in which he could incorporate his own personality and spirituality.

The lack of lyrics in the music leaves it up to the listener to interpret the piece as they wish. It provokes an emotional reaction and is also incredibly relaxing. The ‘Movements’ EP is proof that lyrics aren’t a necessity to provoke powerful sentimental thoughts.

Protz aims to inspire relaxation and offers the perfect setting for escaping to through his music. A firm believer that the world is over-obsessed with Smart-phones and social networks, Protz encourages listeners, from all walks of life, to return to the roots and escape with him into his musical world of beautiful, elegant minimalism.

‘Movements’ is due for release on the 30th November.

Bristol Folk band ‘Apple of My Eye’ are set to sail folk scene with new album ‘Seven Tides’

Exciting and energetic contemporary folk band, ‘Apple Of My Eye’ announce release of new album ‘Seven Tides’, due out 1st December.  Beautifully arranged epic songs in a unique twist on classic folk themes.

Now living in London, the majority of the band hail from the historic maritime city of Bristol and their songs draw inspiration from both cities and from the sea, a theme that runs throughout their second album. Their engaging storytelling style and four part harmonies explore tales of love, loss, adventure and ruin.

The album was recorded at Cowshed Studios and engineered by the hugely respected folk and jazz engineer Joe Leach. They decided to record the entire thing on 2 inch, 24 track analogue recording tape to give a warmer and richer sound than digital techniques.

Having spent the summer performing at some of the most exciting festivals in the UK, including, Tall Ships Festival Greenwich, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and headlining Exile festival in Sheffield, the band are flourishing into an exciting folk force, not to be missed.

The band describe their music as “brand new old songs” and collectively generate all their own material drawing on personal experiences and carefully arranging the music on the guitar, bouzouki, violin, double bass, mandolin and harmonica.

Band member Chris Rusbridge lives on a narrow boat on the waterways of London, where often a rehearsal will turn in to a performance as passers by become a listening crowd. No London public house is safe from the spontaneous band. They are well known for bursting into song and entertaining the drinkers of London pubs.

Catch the guys live in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsyM68eQux4

The band boasts an impressive hoard of musical talent:

Kit Massey (Violin) and Phil Cornwell (Bass) are both full time professional musicians. Cornwell is the musical director of West End musical “The Scotsboro Boys’’ and Massey  was formally a violinist with the Santiago Philamonia in Chile and has worked as a session musician with artists such as Emile Sande, Dizzie Rascal, Muse and Jamie Cullum. Arran Glass (Vocals and Guitar) and Alex Scott (Mandolin) are both professional Actor-Musicians and Puppeteers who perform and compose the music for a variety of theatre and television. Chris (Bouzouki), Dan (Harmonica) and Ellie Rusbridge (Vocals) are all siblings and come from a rich folk music heritage as their parents met in a folk club and still perform in their own folk band Thornbridge.

The Bristol bunch have already been making waves across the folk scene and have received raving reviews from some of the top publications in the genre.

“Be prepared to enter an entirely different world” – Allan Wilkinson – Northern Sky Magazine

“Sublime vocals and intricate instrumental work […] a magical journey filled with rhythm and rhyme.” – Folkblues and Beyond

“These are more than songs sung to tunes. The texture is seamless. Throughout, there’s an unvarying, symbiotic fusion as vocals and instruments feed off each other to create songs with space and depth.” – Tim Carroll – Folkwords

‘Seven Tides’ is due for release December 1st.
